Anchor Center for Blind Children

Anchor Center for Blind Children is a not-for profit organization dedicated to providing early intervention/education to blind and visually impaired children throughout the state of Colorado. Our staff of highly trained vision specialists, therapists and teachers strive to foster the full potential of children who are blind by providing exemplary education, therapy and family support services.

The mission of Anchor Center for Blind Children is to teach visually impaired infants, young children and their families, providing hope and a nurturing environment where children reach their highest potential.

Meet Elie

For the first 10 weeks of her life, she didn’t look at anything—not her mother or father. Not the shiny mobiles hanging over her crib. Not the family’s two black labs, Sammy and Gus.

Worried and distraught, Elie’s mother, Kerry, took her infant daughter to a pediatric ophthalmologist, where she received the devastating news that Elie had a significant vision impairment. Kerry left the doctor’s office stunned, clutching a referral to Anchor Center for Blind Children.

Then the miracle happened. Snug in a boppy under the black light at Anchor Center, Elie saw something for the first time. She saw Heidi, a high-contrast black-and-white doll. For the first time since she was born, her eyes stopped floating and she looked—purposefully—at the smiling faced doll. Next she looked up and saw the face of her mother for the first time.

Donations made to the Anchor Center for Blind Children by you transform the lives of children like Elie and their families. You can take them from grief and shock to acceptance and knowledge. You can make it possible for families to find meaning and joy in the face of uncertainty.

Elie will graduate from Anchor Center for Blind Children in June of 2010 with too many achievements to name.

“Anchor Center gave her the independence to recognize her potential and dreams. Anchor Center gave her the future” - Kerry Musfeldt, mother of Elie
